Well, I finally took apart the bike. It wasn't too bad, it was pretty easy. Disassembling bike made me realize how old this bike is and how much work is needed to bring it back to a much rideable condition.

Bead Blast and Powder Coated

The frame is finally done - bead blasted and powdercoated gloss black - what a difference.

Engine Clean Up

As far as the engine goes, I didn't want to take it completely apart - I just took off the valve cover, clutch cover, etc... I did as much as I can with some engine degreaser, polishing wheel, and time. It sure is shiny! Most of the original cover bolts were replaced with allen head type bolts - much easier than having to use the impact driver.

I also tried to clean up the carburetors with a can of carb cleaner. There was not much internal corrosion. I was able to polish the individual float bowls. Now I'm wondering if this thing will fire right back up...

Motorcycle Suspension

I was able to polish up the front shocks. That was the first time I used a polishing wheel. It sure took a long time. With patience, determination, and back ache; I was able to polish up the front fork tubes. All the internals are stock, and I hope to replace the front fork springs to a progressive suspension set as soon as I save some more $.

I got rid of the rear shocks and got some second-hand cb900F shocks. They look more racy with those separate finned oil reservoir compared to the original shocks. I haven't tested them yet, but if they are shot ($30 from ebay, waddaya expect?), I'll just go for upgraded non-reservoir ones. With a little polishing and cheap paint, it looks pretty good...

cb750 Wheels

I've decided to use the front original 19" rim and wanted to go with an 18" rear. I got rid of the rusted Harley 16" rear rim. I went with a semi-gloss powder coating for the rims, steel spokes with bronze nipples, and self polished hubs. I was able to replace the rear wheel bearings while the rear hub was out. The front wheel bearings still looked good. The rims are fitted with Bridgestone Battlax V-Rated BT45 rubbers. What do you think?
